The Secrets of Ben Hogan

I am currently reading a book in which the setting is when Ben Hogan was on the tour.   I have often heard great teachers of golf talk about his perfect swing.  I am not going to really share his secret but give you three of my own!

1)    Practice round like situations: If a golfer practices at all he/she is going to the driving range hitting a large bucket of balls with his or her driver and calling it practice.  Now I agree this is better than nothing but it only helps one club.   There are several other clubs in the bag plus the course is different than the range.  Picture different shots that you would be making in a round.  Picture your favorite hole and practice like you are on that hole.  Hit the driver, hit your fairway club, and chip it in for a birdie.  Start over and do it on another hole.

2)    Work on your flexibility: The goals of working on your flexibility are decreasing chance of injury, increasing range of motion, improving consistency, and frankly improved quality of life.   Top areas to work on
a.    Shoulder: examples do arm circles, tricep and deltoid stretches.
b.    Hips:  This includes psoas, glutes, piriformis, hamstrings, …etc
c.    Back: Improve rotation, flexion and extesion

3)    Have Fun: Golf can be the most frustrating sport known to the human race, that pesky white ball rarely does exactly what you want it to, if not the ball then the club, and if not the club something goes wrong with the course right???? Okay well despite all that enjoy the beauty of the course and the difficulty of the game.
Enjoy!
