I'd like to spend a few moments on the topic of swing deceleration. We have all heard that decelerating into the ball is a big no-no when it comes to the golf swing. So, common sense would tell us that if we just make sure that we accelerate through the shot everything will be just fine, right? Well, that's not necessarily true. If we are tentative about any aspect of the shot or club selection, it will be very difficult to remain aggressive through the shot.
So, even before you set up to the ball, go ahead and make sure you are very comfortable and confident with your yardage and club selection. Check out what the trees are doing for wind direction. Next, mentally go through your pre-shot routine and rehearse the actual swing that you would like to make. Finally, envision the perfect shot that you would like to hit. Once you're comfortable and confident, set up to the ball and make that good swing.
If you really want to accelerate through the ball, you need to be very confident with your club selection and all other aspects of the golf shot first. If you do, you can always make an aggressive swing knowing you have fully prepared for the shot.
