Putt Lights OUT!

Putting is the most important part of the game plain and simple. Hitting the ball far is fun but a 300 yard drive counts the same in golf as a 2 foot putt! 40% of your shots during a round might be taken on the green so being able to roll in those 5-10 footers is crucial to shooting good scores. Everytime you three putt or miss a putt after a good chip it will start to add up on your scorecard. Here is a great drill to try next time you are on the practice green that will help you to focus more on your short putts. By using this drill you’ll start to learn how to use every part of the cup to your advantage.

  • Set up 4 tees around the cupon each side. Start at 3 feet away from the cup, and place balls in a circle around the cup. Go around the circle and putt each one into the hole. The tees will block certain parts of the cup on some of the balls and will force you to have to aim to a part of the cup to make it.
  • When you get comfortable from that distance you can start to try it from 5 feet away from the cup to up to 10 feet away. The drill will be easier putting to a hole that does not have much break, setting up on a hole that has a slope around it will make you a master of putting!
  • This drill will cause you to think each putt through insrtead of just stepping up and stroking the ball. It makes you pick out a spot to putt to and makes you read the break of the greens. During a real round you can aim at spots on the green just like in this drill.
