Long Putts

When faced with a long putt, stand behind your ball to help you determine the line of the putt. Try to notice where the low and high points of the green are between your ball and the hole.

Survey questions

As you survey the slope of the green, ask yourself a few questions. Is this putt downhill, uphill, or is it fairly flat? This will help you get a feel for how the ball will roll to the hole.

Practice strokes

Before making your stroke, take a few practice strokes looking down the line of the putt to get a feel for the distance to the hole.

Setup to ball

Setup to the ball and turn your head and look at the hole. Picture the ball rolling down the line to the hole. Look back at the ball, make your stroke and hold your finish position.

Practicing your long putts will help you with your short putts. If you can control the distance of your long putts, you will have more short putts left to make.
