When doing anything in life to get better results than you are currently having, you must step out of your comfort zone.   The follow are my top 8 to making you great.  I recommend these to my patients and clients to improve their golf, health, and ultimately life.

But First: What are you looking for in a golf game, Who do you play with, who are you playing against, why are you playing…these are all important questions that you should have the answer to, and if you don’t know think about them and hopefully they all are for a positive reason.

So the top 8 ways to get out of your comfort zone

  1. Take Lessons from a different Instructor: This is important because we can get a different point of view or opinion.  I am not saying drop your current instructor, in fact tell him or her you are looking to take a lesson and see if they recommend anyone.  Also tell your “guest” instructor you have a coach but want a few new insights.
  2. Play a new course: Many of us play the same course or same set of courses. Whether is because you belong to the course, your favorite course, or geographically makes sense, try a few new courses it will make you think about your game more.
  3. Play with someone new: Take someone out that has never played golf before, but has maybe showed an interest.  When playing with someone who has never played before it gives you at least two things…teaching someone else improves your game and winning is always good for an ego boost Wink
  4. Get healthy: In my professional opinion and according to the world health organization: health is not just feeling good or not being diseased; it is social, mental, and physical.  What better way to get healthy than to have an optimally functioning body?!?
  5. Take on a Personal Trainer: The best here is to do your research and find golf specific trainers (TPI and C.H.E.K. are two of the best certifications).
  6. Take a Cardio Class: It is getting darker earlier and the twilight rounds end quickly.  Do something this winter to get your body in top shape for the upcoming golf season. My recommendation after my last couple weeks of trial and error si take a Kick boxing class…this works great for hip and body rotation while getting your heart PUMPING!
  7. Take a Cross Fit class: These classes are popping up left and right.   These classes take even the most in shape, fit, strong person and makes them sore (the good kind) the next day.  These courses are GREAT for your Core muscles, which as I have noted before are great for golf stability, consistency, and distance.
  8. Read books: The best thing here is to read books for life, golf, and fun.  I think that about covers it all.  My recommendations here are Ben Hogan's book, How to win friends and Influence People, and Harry Potter.  Now they may seem obvious or silly…those are books I have found that most golfers, business people have read…yes even Harry Potter.
