What do you do when you find yourself in between clubs on an approach shot to a green. Let's say it is a yardage right in between you 6 and 7 irons. Do you try and swing hard with the 7, or maybe grip down a little on the 6 or swing smooth with it? Think about in the past when you have hit your long irons the best. For me it was always when I really had more club than I needed and was really swinging slow and easy. Many times in that situation I would really catch the golf ball solid and hit an almost pure iron shot. Many times when we swing harder at the ball, it will cause it to have more spin then normal and can get to high in the air. Plus this shot requires that you hit a solid shot. Any mistake and you will not be on the green. With the longer club you have some room for error also. If you hit the ball a little high or low the shot can still work our for you. This swing is in more control also. You will be more balanced and will hit the center of the clubface more often than not.
So that is really the key to this simple golf swing tip. When you are between clubs, and in particular on your long irons, take one more club than you normally need for that distance. Then relax and think about just taking about swinging at about 80% of your normal swing speed. Really try to focus on smooth and easy and think 80%. Then take a nice easy swing. I've found that this really helps on this problem. And you might be a little long, but my experience is that a good solid shot that is a little long is almost always better than the result that I used to get when I was between clubs. Of course you have to take any hazards behind the green into your planning.

Monitor your grip pressure and arm pressure; because it will affect the way you hit the ball. Your shoulder and forearms should be free of tension; after all the more tension you possess you can expect your game to be affected in a bad way.
