Bare the Heat

Is it better to wear shorts and a t-shirt, or knickerbockers and a long sleeve shirt on these great summer days of golf? Well I am pretty sure not too many “fashion icons” would suggest knickerbockers at all anymore but I think they will make a comeback someday. Just like in baseball or football they have “old school” jersey days, golf should have old school clothing days.

The Real question, what to wear on a hot day (to bare skin or not)?

  • Light club appropriate clothing: polo shirt that can wick the sweat away and pants or shorts that allow your legs the freedom to dissipate heat.
  • Shoes that can breathe: If possible own a pair of comfortable shoes that have form and function.
  • BARE skin: put on sunscreen!
  • Don a Cap: If possible have a hat that shades your face and neck. If you can’t wear it while swinging the club, leave it on the cart or bag.

Also to bear the heat you need to have proper hydration and cooling techniques.

  • Have several water bottles and cooler with ice
    • Some bags have this mechanism and if you are riding a cart it is a no brainer
  • If you are going to have alcohol while playing pair it with water!
  • If someone in your group is overheating utilized the ice on their neck and forehead to cool them and flag down a marshal!

I hope you are able to BARE and BEAR the heat this summer and play well.
